Population pyramids - age and sex distribution in East Iceland

In Iceland the percentage of agegroups 0-4 to 55-59 is similar but decreases as people grow older and die.

Population pyramids are divided by gender. The pyramids in figures 1 – 3 show males on the left side (blue) and women on the right side ( red). Each bar corresponds to the proportion of total population that are men or female of each age group. For example 0-4 year old girls were 3.3% of the total population of East Iceland in 2014 but women age 30-34 were 2.8%. Boys age 0-4 were 3.5% of the population in East Iceland but men age 30 – 34 3.4% (Figure 2)

In 2014 47.2 of the population in East Iceland were female and 52.8% male. In 2006 36.1% of the population were female and 63.9% male. The population pyramid looked different then ( Figure 3)
