The Companies

The owners of the Sustainable Initiatives in Eastern Iceland are Alcoa and Landsvirkjun. The Initiative was launched in in 2004 by Alcoa and Landsvirkjun joining hands to gather a wide range of stakeholders to participate in an advisory group of the Initiative. At that time, the operation of Landsnet was still a part of Landsvirkjun's operations. Since Landsnet became an independent company, it has kept an active representative in the advisory group. The owners of the Sustainability Initiative in Northern Iceland are Alcoa, Landsvirkjun and Landsnet. The Northern Initiative is based on the methodology and experience acquired in the Eastern Initiative; hence, it enjoys the valuable contribution of wide range of stakeholders that are an active part of the advisory group.
